As a single, female traveler, I feel safe walking back to the hotel from the Tube station in the evenings. Bayswater is a really multi-ethnic, family oriented neighborhood with great restaurants. It's only one stop from Paddington, so if you fly into Heathrow and take the Heathrow express, you can then hop on the Tube and in one quick stop be able to get to your hotel.
